In regards to the new singing, Pharazyn says “I’ve worked at The Sweet Shop as a design director for a number of years, and am proud to be joining the roster of such a successful and forward thinking production company.” Recognized for his unique graphic style, Pharazyn broke the mold with the traditional short film format, creating an exceptionally executed art film that utilized a heavy post component. Hailed as ‘authoritative filmmaking’ by the director Vincent Ward and named in the Top 10 Shorts by Cinematical.com’s Sundance insider Eric Davis, “Vostok Station” was also selected for the Valladolid International Film Festival 2009, Uppsala International Short Film Festival 2009 OneDotZero 2009 and Interfilm Berlin 2009. “It chokes me up to think about the success we've had with it,” recalls Pharazyn, Pharazyn spent the first eight years of his career working as a 3D animator, compositor and art director for various media companies in Auckland, NZ. Majoring in Painting and Design at Elam School of Fine Arts, he ran his own motion graphics and design company, Timbuctoo Studio, for three years. He began making music videos in 2003, including The Checks’ “What You Heard,” one of the top five most-watched videos in 2005. In 2007 he joined The Sweet Shop as Design Director. Says Stephen Dickstein, The Sweet Shop’s Global President/Managing Partner, “Dylan’s taste and outlook is fresh and contemporary, creating opportunity and invention out of what might otherwise be the banal. ” Adds The Sweet Shop CEO/Managing Partner Paul Prince, “After working with Dylan as in-house design director for the last few years, I am over the moon to represent his talents to the global commercial ad business.” Prince adds that it’s shaping up to be a busy year for the young director, with two new shorts and a feature script in progress, as well as commercials and music videos under way. |
